Vere was the first to plant potatoes in Wasco (1907) and the first to start a dairy in Wasco (after kangaroo rats destroyed his potatoes).⁸ He and Carrie had one of the first frame houses in Wasco, and their son Gene was the first born in Wasco.⁷
